With this CD the Academy offers listeners a chance to discover a genuine original document by Jules Verne, a work that no-one has hitherto been able to appreciate in this form. This is the world premiere recording of the songs of Jules Verne and his friend Aristide Hignard, both of them natives of Nantes. Everyone can become acquainted with the spirit of these verses and the vigour of their musical seting, which mere perusal of scores tucked away in libraries could not fully reveal to us before now. It is also an opportunity for us to plunge anew into this French repertoire of the 1820s, often little-known and very rarely recorded. Finally, let us not forget that, more even than their status as a priceless treasure in the history of the song with piano, these works remain above all a moving testimony to the friendship of two young men on whom posterity has not chosen to lavish equal degrees of glory.
