Cette édition 3CD WORKINGMAN’S DEAD : 50th ANNIVERSARY DELUXE EDITION propose l’album original récemment remasterisé et un concert inédit enregistré le 21 février 1971 au Capitol Theatre de Port Chester, dans l’état de New York. Ce concert a été mixé à partir des masters analogiques 16-pistes par Jeffrey Norman au TRI Studios de Bob Weir dans le Marin County et masterisé par l’ingénieur du son David Glasser, récompensé aux Grammy Awards. En 1970, avec 'Workingman’s Dead', le Grateful Dead publiait un album radicalement différent de ses précédents enregistrements. Celui-ci révélait une nouvelle facette du Dead. Si le groupe était toujours le même, leur son et leur approche différente de la musique avaient évolué de l’improvisation psychédélique vers un storytelling folk-rock destiné à l’“everyman”, “l’homme du quotidien”, comme le suggère le titre de l’album. Avec ses huit chansons majeures – dont “Casey Jones” et “High Time” – 'Workingman’s Dead' a fait entrer Jerry Garcia et Robert Hunter dans l'histoire des meilleurs duos de songwriters américains.
